Pennsylvania car insurance quotes are something you need to get today! They are the first step to acquiring and keeping a good car insurance policy, which will protect you, keep you safe, and allow you to legally drive.

Basically, car insurance is a legal contract between your insurance company and you that helps to protect you against any severe financial loss if you are ever in an accident. If you agree to pay the premium on a regular basis, the insurance company agrees to pay for certain expenses (defined in your policy signed with them) in return.

It’s a great deal… if you’re unfortunate enough to be in an accident.

And it is also the law! In order to maintain “financial responsibility” on your vehicle, Pennsylvania law says that you need to keep car insurance. If PennDOT (the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation) finds that you didn’t have insurance while you operated your vehicle, your license may be suspended for three months.

It’s not just a matter of punishment, though. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department, established in 1873 and organized in 1921, makes it easy by certifying, re-certifying, and overall establishing all the best insurers.

When you are ready to apply for this, and get started on the road to legal driving, be sure to have a good idea what kinds of coverage you want, what limits of liability you require, and what deductibles you will be okay with. Also, you need to have the following basic information for all of the drivers in your family:

  • The name, age, sex, and marital status of each driver
  • Annual mileage
  • Driving records (accidents, parking violations, moving violations, etc.)
  • Special equipment (anti-theft devices, airbags, etc.)
  • Full VIN (vehicle identification number)
  • Make, model, year, and cost of vehicle

The first step is just to answer some questions: the insurance company (or an agent thereof) will ask you some questions and decide whether to accept you as a policyholder. This is known as underwriting. Insurance companies legally cannot discriminate against anyone by paying attention to qualities like race, religion, nationality or ethnicity, age, sex, family size, occupation, where the person resides, or their marital status.

Insurers will take certain issues into consideration when deciding your premium… what is the year, model, and type of the vehicle? Does it have safety features and enough of them? Where is the vehicle kept in storage overnight? How many miles is it driven, on average, in a year? What are the histories of each of the drivers?

Some companies use credit info for underwriting. They are not allowed to do this for renewal, though, only the initial quote. If you’ve got good credit , you can look forward to a much better rate.

The following is a more complete list of the possibilities for expenses and penalties:

  • A fine of at least $300.
  • Your vehicle getting impounded
  • A three-month suspension of your driver’s license
  • Restoration fees to restore your driver’s license
  • A three-month suspension of your vehicle registration
  • Restoration fees to restore your vehicle registration

Your vehicle cannot be driven at all before any of these are sorted out.

In particular, if all else fails and none of these free quotes pans out into a policy… Pennsylvania ’s “Assigned Risk Plan” is a program that could help. It offers auto insurance to those who are otherwise unable to obtain coverage. All companies writing auto insurance in the state are by law required to participate. Applicants are assigned by the program to an insurance company based on the amount of business each company does in Pennsylvania.

If you ever get caught without insurance, your car’s plates, your registration sticker, and your driver’s license must be given to PennDOT in order to serve the suspension. Restoration fees and proof of insurance must be submitted before having driving or registration privileges returned to you.

Be without a car that long? That is certainly bad, but it is just how it is gotta be!

All in all, car insurance is critical. Having the right insurance coverage can keep you from suffering a huge financial loss in the event of an accident. They have a wide variety of different coverages, that you are free to select from based on your own desires and necessities, to keep you legal and safe. Pennsylvania car insurance quotes are definitely something to get today.
