Who’s Raising Rates on Pennsylvania Car Insurance in 2011

Posted: March 16th, 2011 under Uncategorized.

Wow, I just visited the agent section of the pennsylvania insurance department website. Looks like a few companies are already lining up to raise rates for pennsylvania car insurance policies this year.  Not nearly as long as the line that were asking for health insurance rates increases. Looks like the later stages of Obamacare has scared the crap out of insurers…imagine…the thought of not being able to deny people the right to get health insurance !!

No news flash here…just some information that’s a matter of public record

Looks like Pennsylvania National Mutual Casualty Insurance is leading the pack for Pa so far with their request for a 6% rate increase. This will give them a meager $1,736,000 raise for the year. Followed by Travelers Indemnity at 4% that amounts to a $4,599,000 pay raise for the folks at that company.  In case that’s not enough for Travelers they’re grabbing another 3.99% on homeowners insurance for another $3,528,000 cash advance.  Allstate’s2.0% nets them an increase of $6.697 million annually so it looks like they’ll be able to continue with the mayhem….mmmm….depends on what mayhem means to you.

I certainly may have missed one or two rate filings but I’d bet my last dollar that none of them filed for a rate decrease. Last rate decrease I saw was Donegal Insurance about two years ago and that was an exception to the norm.  I’m not an expert on rate filings and all the intimate details but I do know how it affects my clients…because I hear it firsthand. One recent argument was “how can an insurance company pay huge dividends to stockholders and then raise my rates?”  Wow! I hadn’t thought of that. I’d like to know the answer to that myself.

Find an agent who handles many different insurance companies and you’ll be on the right track to getting fair, honest treatment. Why ? Because these guys know that if they don’t get you what you wantor need…someone else will.  Agents who represent only one insurance company are locked in to that one option and don’t have any room to be flexible. As Erie Insurance agents for the past 26 year I can tell you that there are several companies who have remained steady with their rates and stable with their coverages and service…those are the companies you want.  Erie is one of the best. I also represent many other fine companies but I only “work for” my clients. If my loyalty wasn’t to the client first and the company second I’d probably never seen the huge success I’ve enjoyed all these years. If your shopping for the best pennsylvania car insurance quote, you really should consider giving us a try.
