Insuring Your Motorhome or RV in Pa

Posted: March 22nd, 2011 under family auto policy, RV insurance, Uncategorized.

We get requests every week to add a RV, trailer or motorhome to an existing family auto policy. Many times it’s a simple case of getting them the proper coverages and even adding the vehicle to their personal auto policy. This assumes that the use of the vehicle falls under certain categories of personal use. There are some instances when the RV should not be insured on a Pa personal auto insurance policy at all.

If you park your RV or trailer and put it up on blocks for use as a seasonal dwelling we would advise you not to add it to your auto policy. Your auto policy will not provide coverage for contents to the RV. In these circumstances it is best to purchase a specialty type policy that will include premises liability(for visitors on the property) as well as contents coverage for your personal belongings.  Same with Motorhomes…your personal auto policy does not give you contents coverage. In the case of insuring a motorhome on your auto policy you need to be sure that your homeowners policy will provide seperate coverage for your personal belongings in the motorhome. Many homeowners policies only provide up to 10% of your personal belonging coverage to property that is “off premisies” manytimes that is not enough coverage.

Feel free to jump over to our pennsylvania auto insurance quote form if you’d like a quote on your pennsylvania motorhome insurance or any other RV insurance and we’ll shop around with many top companies to get you different coverage options.
