Funny thing about this insurance business… Just when you start to think you’ve got it figured out, things change and you realize you really don’t know quite as much as you thought. I guess the biggest thing is being able to admit we’re not perfect but that we’ll work our hardest to try to get close.
Honesty just doesn’t seem to go out of style in this business ever. Oh…it may come and go for some agents..but the long time successful agents all have one common trait…honesty. Many of my newest clients have placed a great deal of emphasis on “value” that they receive. What do they regard as “value” ? You might think it’s low price…you’d be partially right…most think a fair price along with quality service, product knowledge, honest advice and knowing that their agent is looking out for them rate higher than price alone.
My office has seen a flood of new clients moving over from agents who only represent “one” company. In this business those agents are referred to as “captive” agents. They have a relationship with one company and normally only offer the products of that one company. Good thing if that one company is a top performer…bad thing if that company isn’t. The captive agents I know personally are good, hard working folks who try their best to take care of their clients. Unfortunately, many times, their rates or coverages are not as good as what we can find with some of the various companies we represent.
In 2009 we were able to share a total savings of over $179,000 with our new and existing clients by finding them insurance programs that were better for them in both coverage and price. 2010 has us setting our sights even higher in hopes of breaking the $200,000 mark in total savings for clients.
