What Your Agent Hasn’t Told You About Auto Insurance in Pennsylvania

Okay, I’m being overly dramatic…I think we can agree that this isn’t National Inquirer type of late breaking news !  It is however a topic that will generate interest with anyone who has changed insurance companies recently or who has been insured with the same company for many, many years. Auto insurance in pennsylvania has changed!

.

Switching companies to save some money for more important things is the hot topic in marketing. Look at Geico and basically everyone else who’s advertising today.  How in the heck can every insurance company be saving folks hundreds every time they switch ? Yeah, I’d like to know that myself.

.

After 23 years of doing this and I can tell you right off that you’re probably not going to save a pile of cash. If you are insured with one of the top ten companies you’re probably getting a decent price. If you haven’t reviewed things with your agent recently, you might find that they can get you into better programs due to your loyalty, etc.  The biggest thing I find on a daily basis is the actual benefit you’re getting with a company can vary in a huge way. Companies are now offering accident forgiveness that can be “recharged” after three years of “accident free” driving. Many of the old school companies are in the dark ages on this one. Many of these guys have a “use it” and “lose it” program that takes away your forgiveness after the first accident.  This can be huge to a family with youngsters coming up through the ranks who are likely to have a fender bender or two.  Keep some of these benefits in mind when you are shopping.

.

A few other discounts you can ask about when you speak with your agent: Longevity discounts, renewal credits, multi policy, over 55, accident prevention, college student, accident free, good student to name a few. Just deal with an agent who is known for searching out discounts and being very service oriented and you’re well on your way to having the best auto insurance in pennsylvania you can find.

Auto Insurance In Pennsylvania, How To Save

Auto insurance in Pennsylvania isn’t nearly as complex as you might think. Following a few simple steps will go a long ways towrd saving you additional money.

Starting with the simplest first, you need to look at the comprehensive and collision deductibles on your policy. When was the last time you had a claim? Or even better, how many claims have you had in the last ten years? Chances are, if you compare the cost savings of raising your deductibles by 200 each will more than offset the premiums you’ve paid in over the last ten years. Call you agent and find out what the actual cost savings for higher deductibles will be and then decide.

Credit ranking will make a big difference in rates as well. If your credit score is good and your rates haven’t changed in quite a while it may be time to shop around. You can try calling your agent for a new price but that decision is yours. Many companies established credit score as a factor for rating several years ago. When this happened, they “grandfathered” in the poor credit scores and were prohibited from raising their rates based on credit. The poor credit score clients are actually getting a better deal than they would be to buy insurance now.  If your credit is great, check around and you’ll see that there are companies out there who are willing to deeply discount your rates.

Discounts are so numerous in the insurance business today it’s hard as an agent to keep track of them all. We keep track and know which carrier/company is best for each individual in each circumstance. Having an agent who has access to more than one company gives you the benefit of alwasy looking for additional programs and discounts for you. Don’t handcuff your self to an agent who has limited choices unless the benefits far outweigh the potential cost savings.
